CARBON DIOXIDE WAS CONCEALED IN SEA

SOLID CARBON DIOXIDE
Recent reports say that carbon dioxide was hidden in the sea during the ice age. This was the reason for the low concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere during ice age, 20,000 years ago.

Researchers of France and Switzerland concluded the close relation that existed between the temperature and carbon dioxide concentration in the past i.e about 8,00,000 years back.

“We have now been able to identify processes in the ocean which are connected to the observed rise in CO2,” said Jochen Schmitt, from Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research, University of Bern, who led the study, the journal Science reported.

According to him, a large amount of carbon dioxide was compiled into the deep sea, thus reducing the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

He added that through the research he found that towards the end of the ice age, this piled up carbon dioxide was emitted back into the atmosphere and hence the amount and concentration of CO2 was gradually increased in the atmosphere.
