Interestingly Facebook has renamed their Privacy Owner to
Knowledge Use Owner, clearly indicating that the social networking site intends
to expand promotion avenues, as the company is due to go to public with its IPO
coming out in April. Analysts have raised concerns over Facebook’s revenues in
the last couple of months.
Facebook appears to be accompanying in the footfalls from
Google, & has declared alterations, a lot similar Google, to its arguments
of Rights & obligations . The full pdf is getable for download at this link
& comprises 9 pages .
The Facebook statement reads,
Today, we’re letting you know of some changes they propose
for the Statement of Rights & Duties, an important document that describes
our relationship with users & others who interact with Facebook. Lots of
the changes are administrative (for example, substituting citations to our Privacy
Policy with Data Use Policy) & others make our practices & policies
lighter.
The other significant alter is that Facebook is also looking
to increase payments by the site & has outlined a bunch of terms for
payment on the site. Last month Facebook had said that it could team up with
mobile operators on payments, in the hope operators could help it make money
from its hundreds of millions of mobile users purchasing games or music on the
social network.
Instantly while FB might think Knowledge Use Owner is mere
administrative alter but the word play is fascinating & it’s clear that the
site has realised that users are sharing lots of knowledge such as links,
videos & photographs by the social networking site, which could be a large
boon for advertisers who seek to understand how users interact on the net
vis-a-vis the social networking site.
Facebook has also made some changes to how app developers
interact with users & it seems the site desires applications to set out a
clear privacy owner & also delete date if a user desires them to do so. The
agreement states that
Facebook is also keen to take on detest speeches,
cyber-bulling, nudity, etc & clearly prohibits users from posting anything
that could cause violence. Facebook has recently faced legal complications in
India after a court pulled up the site for allowing inflammatory content. It
had also faced recent protests from All Assam Chutia Students Union (Aacsu)
after blocking the accounts of thousands of people with the surname Chutia
saying that the social network has confused it with Hindi slang.
With regard to advertisers, it is clear that Facebook, has
set in a bunch of new rules that might not all advertisers
You will have a privacy owner that tells users what user
knowledge you are going to make use of & the way you will use, display,
share, or transfer that knowledge & you will include your privacy owner URL
in the Developer Application.
