Holger Hermanns, a computer scientist whose hobby is mainly cycling is trying to make travelling safer by inventing wireless braking systems. At present, he is making wireless braking system that make use of sensors in the handlebar. Holger says that it is a playground for them and no one would be seriously interested in it.
The reason for choosing a bicycle was because it was inexpensive and easy to build. When he published his invention, several calls came from biking industry regarding the making of these wireless braking system. The brakes are working on account of the grip. So more harder the grip is, the more efficient is the braking system. The entire system works on batteries that provide the required electricity for the working of the system.
The system is nearly hundred percent secure. Though it is not perfect, it is acceptable and satisfactory according to Hermanns. The system won't be used in Tour de France, because of the weight of the batteries and recievers used in the braking system.
“Until you can buy it in a shop, this will take several years,” he said, adding it will probably take five years to produce something light enough to work commercially.Hermanns is trying to make his brakes ABS instead of the present disc brakes.
His new innovation is not to make wireless braking system in bikes, but to improve the current system. “We can model and analyze these models and then put this new practice on the bike,” he said. his invention may create improvements even in European trains sometimes.
